About

Violinist & bandleader who came to Singapore from Shanghai in 1932. At first he jointly conducted the orchestra at the Adelphi & Sea View Hotels with Dick Adamson, but when Adamson left for Hong Kong in late 1932 he became the sole orchestra leader and continued in that role until 1934. He married the popular dancer Tania Svetlanova in Singapore in July 1933.

Strauss returned to Shanghai to conduct the orchestra at the Little Club in 1934, but after a few months he briefly returned to Singapore in 1935 on his way to Java, and by December 1936 he was leading Paul Strauss & His orchestra at the Princess Restaurant in Calcutta, India.
