About
Kung Chiu Hsia was born in Jiangsu, China on Dec. 4 1918. As a singer and dancer she travelled across China and throughout Southeast Asia as part of the Shanghai Plum Flower Troupe (梅花歌舞团) in 1933. She starred in many movies from 1936 to 1966 – perhaps most famous for her role in “Four Daughters” (1938) – and recorded extensively for Pathe (becoming known as one of the “Seven Singing Stars”). After relocating to Hong Kong in 1946 she continued making films and recorded there. In 1967 she moved to Taiwan, and died 7 Sep. 2004.
