About

The Filipino Barangay Dance Company, formed in 1949, performed in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur in December 1966. The troupe, comprising 26 dancers, singers, and musicians, arrived in Singapore on December 15, bringing with them a diverse repertoire of 32 performances showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines. Their program spanned traditional Igorot mountain dances, dating back thousands of years, to contemporary pieces reflecting Muslim and Spanish influences. Performances were held at the National Theatre in Singapore on December 16 and 21, with a special children’s performance at Singapore General Hospital on December 16, and at Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur on December 19.

The troupe flew in from Manila via Malaysian Airways, bringing costumes insured for $50,000. Tickets were on sale at Donald Moore Galleries, Robinsons, C.K. Tang, Cold Storage, and Popular Book Co.

Barangay Dance Company’s tour to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur was presented by Donald Moore. On the troupe’s website, it is listed as:
