Abdullah S., Sheik Abdullah
About
Javanese singer who performed in Singapore with the City Opera in 1929. His full name was Sheik Abdullah.
He was a member of the D.E.I. band Lief Java and made many kronchong records under his own name in Batavia for HMV and Canary (1929-1939).
Became very popular throughout Southeast Asia as a result of his records and broadcasts on the D.E.I. radio station NIROM since 1936. As a result of this wider popular S. Abdullah came to Singapore with a troupe of musicians and performers and appeared at Happy World in August 1938.
Returned to Singapore in May 1939 as an individual artiste to perform in the annual Kronchong Championships.
