About

The Cultural Centre of Singapore Council for Adult Education at Canning Rise, opened in 1957 and was managed by Singapore’s Adult Education Board. Housed in a brick building tucked away at the foot of Fort Canning Hill, it became a space where cutting-edge and sometimes avant-garde post-war local theatre took place. Robert Yeo’s first play, Are You There Singapore? (1974), was staged here. The center was renovated in 1975 and renamed the Drama Center in 1980.
