About
The Teutonia Club, established on 28 June 1856 by a small group of seven members, was a private social club primarily for the German community in Singapore (Singapore Free Press 1886). Early meetings were reportedly held in a small house near Beach Road, later relocating to Blanche House, and finally to a purpose-built clubhouse around 1862 (Singapore Free Press 1886). The club hosted social gatherings, musical performances, dances, and dinners, often welcoming both German and English residents, fostering goodwill and cultural exchange (Singapore Free Press 1886). By the 1880s, the club numbered approximately sixty-five members and was considered a leading social association, celebrated for its hospitality and elaborate events (Singapore Free Press 1886).
