About
Singapore singer (real name Fang Yun).
“When you walk into a beauty salon in Serangoon Garden Estate, Singapore, you may come across a recording artist who prefers hair styling to a full time career as a singer. She is Grace Hong, popularly known to her friends as Fang Yin, who refuses to work in nightclubs but has in her own quiet way cut four very successful Mandarin records. ‘Hairdressing is my first love. Singing is merely a part time occupation,’ says this lovely though demure 23 year-old promising singer. Grace, who sings mainly in Mandarin, started on her second career when she won a singing competition organised by Rediffusion last year. The $400 trip to Hong Kong and a singing contract were among the many prizes she won. Her records include songs which range from rhythm and blues to a-go-go numbers. Her recording company is so pleased with her that she was recently signed up for another two years. This 5 feet 4 inch tall singer will soon be cutting another disc, ‘Santa Claus Is Coming To Town’ in Mandarin. Grace, who despite her success remains very close to her old friends, hopes one day to go on a concert tour. Meanwhile she keeps herself busy appearing on television and on stage in Singapore.” [Radio Weekly, November 27, 1967, 9]
