Miss Sybil Evans, who has had about four years’ training in Guy’s Hospital, London, has just headed the list in the recent midwifery examination in the Rotunda, Ireland. She is leaving for India early next month to join Lady Minto’s. [Pinang Gazette and Straits Chronicle, 2 January 1926, p.9]
REVUE AT THE ALHAMBRA – The Alhambra management is to be congratulated on the success of its “Our Day” effort on Monday evening. A big “house” was well entertained for three hours, and a surprisingly large sum was raised for the Red Cross… Miss Sybil Evans sang two songs in sweet voice… [Singapore Free Press (Weekly), 16 November 1916, p.309]
Y.W.C.A. CONCERT – There was a capital attendance in the large ball of the YMCA last evening, at the concert in aid of the Second Singapore Girl Guides Company (YWCA). A splendid programme was submitted and the artists were vociferously encored. The YWCA rendered three delightful choruses, songs were given by Miss Manook, Mrs Thomas, Miss Sybil Evans and Mr Themsen, all of which were heartily appreciated. Mr Tay gave two violin solos and the audience were loth to let him go without an encore. Miss Brandle was applauded for her two recitations. Little Miss Peggy Brittain and Miss Peggy King delighted the audience with their pretty dance ” Bourrie” and for an encore they gave an ” Irish Jig.” [Singapore Free Press (Weekly), 31 October 1918, p.277]
CHAPIRO’S CONCERT – Naum Chapiro, the violinist, gave a successful concert at the Myrtle Club on Wednesday a large audience much appreciating his efforts and those of the local artistes who assisted him… One of the best items of the concert was the playing of Mendelssohn’s Capriccio Brillante for two pianos by Mr. Solis and Miss S. Evans, which was loudly encored. Miss Evans’ playing showed taste and feeling and combined excellently with that of Mr. Solis… [Straits Budget, 20 June 1919, p.14]
SOCIETY CONCERT – As promoter of the society concert held last evening in the Victoria Theatre in aid of the Kloet Reliet Fund, Mrs. G. M. Alford must have felt highly gratified at the success which attended her labours. There was a capital attendance and all the artistes came in for rounds of applause, not one being allowed to leave the stage without an encore. The programme was a nicely varied one. Miss Sybil Evans gave a fine rendering of Lohr’s ”Songs of Roumania” for which she was heartily applauded. Mr F. W. King in his humorous item caused much merriment. In a very amusing way he tried to impress upon the audience that his version of Hamlet was correct and Shakespeare was wrong This item created roars of laughter. Mrs G M Alford possesses a beautiful soprano voice and although she gave an encore the audience were loth to let her go without a third song. Mr. A I H van Husden gave two delightful violin solos. Me and Mrs Charles Kitts scored a big succees in their fantastic playlet “Idle Dreams.” It was full of interest from start to finish and although the finish was a little on the dramatic side, comedy was the predominating feature. Mrs. Alford and Mr. Hopkins rendered a charming duet “Till the clouds roll by” and for which they were enthusiastically applauded. The second half of the programme was quite as successful as the initial half. This comprised songs by Mr. D E Hopkins, Mrs G M Alford, Mr. T C Maxwell, duet on two pianos by Miss Evans and Mr Solis, duet by Mrs Alford and Mr Hopkins a short dramatic playlet “Room 181” by Mr. and Mrs. Kitts, and one of the best successes of the evening was that popular American actress Miss Marie King Scott who has recently done so well in Australia. The Europe Hotel Orchestra was in attendance and rendered several items. [Singapore Free Press, 26 June 1919, p.4]

Maxwell, Mrs. A van Heusder and Mr. C. Kitts. [Singapore Free Press, 9 August 1919, p.6]

CHINESE AID TO CHARITY – The Chinese sub-committee of the St. Andrew’s Mission Hospital Building Fund, held a very successful concert in the Victoria Theatre on Saturday. The attendance was fair and though more would have been welcome, the brisk trade in programmes, buttonholes and sweets by the youthful vendors atoned considerably for the lack of a fuller audience. The programme was very varied and consisted of acting and dancing and music – the latter being both instrumental and vocal. The principal item was a short Chinese sketch, called The Barbarian Maid, in which the author, Mr. Yap Pheng Geck, took the leading role, ably assisted by the other amateur actors in the cast. The Misses L. Tredgold, G. Anchant, E. Mathews, G. Peche, E. E. Etlin and C. Shelley, under the able direction of Miss Sybil Evans, gave some excellent dancing turns. [Straits Times, 31 January 1922, p.10]
