A makeshift performance space built on a Snake-class sloop-of-war. “The stage was raised a few feet in front of the brig’s mainmast, & all aft was covered in with flags of different nations, forming a striking & variegated ceiling, and disposed at the sides so as to admit an agreeable supply of air” (The Singapore Free Press and Mercantile Advertiser, 5 March, 1840)
