About

American girl from Georgia who performed under the name “The Little Magnet.” Her act was promoted as “the greatest phenomenon since the Christian era. Two Hours of inexplicable mystery. Food for thought. What is this mighty force that overcomes physical strength and baffles the scientific world?” [The Straits Maritime Journal, 22 January 1896, p.4]

She began performing in America and Europe and came to Singapore in January 1896, where she appeared at the Town Hall. In late January 1896, she went to Penang, and at the end of the month, went on to shorter appearances in Perak, Taiping, and Ipoh. Her subsequent performances are not known.

In 1903, local newspapers published a short item saying: “Lots of people in Singapore will remember Miss Annie May Abbott, the ‘Georgia Magnet.” She died last month in San Francisco.” [Straits Times, 23 June 1903, p.4]
