Singapore piano teacher & pianist
THE PIANO IN THE HOME – An excellent programme of pianoforte playing by the pupils of Mrs. Hilda Ebert was performed on Monday, the 16th inst., at the Y.W.C.A. Hall which was well filled by parents and friends… [Straits Times, 24 February 1925, p.7]
SINGAPORE RECITAL – The annual recital of pianoforte music by the pupils of Mrs. Hilda Ebert, of 32, Dunean Road, Singapore, took place on Friday evening before a gathering of parents and friends. The recital was most interesting, especially to the visitor from Europe. Duets and solos on the pianoforte were rendered by the Misses Tholan; by Mrs. Caalan and Miss Susie Marks; and by Miss Maggie Chia, the little daughter of Mr. China Keng Tye. She revealed unusual mastery of technique in one so young. A quartet by Master Otto Lettinga and the Masters Ebert was much enjoyed, also a fine vocal duet by Mrs. Pearse and Mr. Paul Verdayne. This was followed by a trio by Mrs. Triebels and Mrs. Ebert, with “Zlata.” Later the last-mentioned gave Moskowski’s “Spanish Dance,” with castinet accompaniment, in her usual clever fashion. Mrs. Ebert then rendered a pianoforte solo which demanded a high degree of technical skill – setting before her pupils a standard of excellence. Further songs by Mrs. Pearse and by Mr. Paul Verdayne closed a pleasant evening. The accompanist throughout was Mrs. Ebert, who displayed rare sympathy and accord with the soloists.
