The Greater Marcus Show
About
The Marcus Show was a variety revue company from the United States, produced by A. B. Marcus for touring in the 1920s and 1930s. In September 1933, it was announced that the manager Charles Hugo had contracted to take the A.B. Marcus Show on a world tour, with plans to perform in Hawaii, Japan, China, the Philippines, Java, India, Australia and South Africa, and then returning to the United States to Egypt and southern Europe (The Billboard, 9 September 1933, 4). However, the company’s touring in 1934 focused on cities in Asia. The Marcus Show played in Tokyo in March and April 1934. Other cities on the tour included Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Manila, Singapore and Calcutta. In September the company returned to Japan for engagements in Osaka and Nagoya (Variety, 11 Septebmer 1934, 13) and then traveled back to the United States after performing in Canada (The Billboard, 17 November 1934).
